Inspired by the needs of the people in the Alte Jakobstra\u00dfe and Columbiadamm shelters, we transformed our sharing kiosk into a temporary bicycle repair station and connected residents with additional mobility resources.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

There are many initiatives in Berlin working to provide access to individual mobility for people who have fled their homes, with cycling as a fundamental building block. In the Alte Jakobstra\u00dfe and Columbiadamm accommodation centres, we met many people with bicycles that needed minor repairs. This inspired us to turn our sharing kiosk into a temporary bike repair workshop equipped with basic tools. <\/span><\/p>\n

Once a week we opened the workshop in the shelters and worked with the residents to repair their bikes. We also put people in touch with R\u00fcckenwind – Bikes for Refugees to give them access to repaired bikes. We informed them about free bike hire, bike markets and DIY bike workshops. <\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
