Map “Toloka”

As a result of the project, a digital map was created, highlighting needs-oriented places in Berlin’s sharing culture, including community spaces and accessible locations, which is continuously updated.

Working with the residents of the refugee centres, we initiated a mapping process to gather information about the city. Our aim was to identify places that respond to people’s needs. We looked for places that offer support and counselling for various concerns, that strengthen mental health, that provide families with contact with nature and culture (both Ukrainian and local), that promote social exchange, and that support development through informal learning. Residents shared their knowledge about the city and also exchanged views on the specific challenges of living in shelters and how to protect their own rights in such facilities.

Through this exchange process, and based on our knowledge of the city’s resources, we created a digital map of Berlin. This map brings together places and opportunities for exchange, resource sharing, support, empowerment and creative activism. It includes public spaces, horizontal and activist projects, Ukrainian and local social and cultural initiatives, communities and neighbourhood structures that promote sustainable use of resources, foster a culture of solidarity and promote social justice and inclusion. Most of these places are non-profit and open to the public.

This is a subjective map, intended only as a guide, and does not claim to be exhaustive. Many of the places listed in each category fulfil different areas of activity and overlap with other categories.

We plan to continuously expand this collection. If you know of any places that are not yet on our map but should definitely be included, please feel free to let us know via email.
