Pop Up Cycling

Inspired by the needs of the people in the Alte Jakobstraße and Columbiadamm shelters, we transformed our sharing kiosk into a temporary bicycle repair station and connected residents with additional mobility resources.

There are many initiatives in Berlin working to provide access to individual mobility for people who have fled their homes, with cycling as a fundamental building block. In the Alte Jakobstraße and Columbiadamm accommodation centres, we met many people with bicycles that needed minor repairs. This inspired us to turn our sharing kiosk into a temporary bike repair workshop equipped with basic tools.

Once a week we opened the workshop in the shelters and worked with the residents to repair their bikes. We also put people in touch with Rückenwind – Bikes for Refugees to give them access to repaired bikes. We informed them about free bike hire, bike markets and DIY bike workshops.
